Noosa Hills Golf Course
Course Review of Noosa Hills par 3 course on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland Australia
After a week of almost non-stop rain, we decided to take the clubs out and play Noosa Hills, a stunning 36-hole par 3 golf course about 15 minutes west of Noosa township on Queensland's sunshine coast. Par 3 courses are a great way to practice the short game, and the mental game of golf!
I have been injured for the past two weeks with a grumpy lower back, so with the permission of my osteopath, and a solid yoga warm up, we headed out into the steamy 26 degree Sunday afternoon.

The Stats
Condition 9/20
The condition is fine for what it is, but not spectacular when compared to other courses we've played. That being said it has been torrential rain for the past week or so, the fairways and green aprons were quite muddy, and the bunkers unplayable (no complaints from me to take free relief). Greens were spongy, patchy and surprisingly fast.
Biodiversity 16/20
This is the clear winner of the day - the biodiversity really makes the experience. Amazing trees, birds, native vegetation and a few kangaroos - you really are on Queenland's sunshine coast!
Vistas 12/20
Lovely internal views and a few peaks at Mt Tinbeerwah and other glasshouse mountains every now and then.
Organisation 8.5/20
A warm welcome by the friendly staff and well earned cold beers after the ninth hole to keep us going. The pace of play was quite slow (casual locals not in any rush) - but hey, we are in Noosa right?
Design 13/20
We played a relaxed game on the basis of me returning from injury - so the design suited the circumstances. I love playing here as an opportunity to work on my short game and take the pressure off having to hit big drives. There's not a huge variety between holes, but there is across 18s if that makes sense - the north and south courses do differ (as much as par 3s can). You had to think about distance, run (virtually none), a bit of wind and then how best to approach from the apron (pitch or chip and run). For those of us who haven't mastered the short game - this course will always present a challenge! And you feel good when you get a birdy.
Suggestions and strategy
Something the course taught you: it's possible to play with half your clubs if you adjust for distance,
Favourite hole: 15th hole, got a birdy!
Some advice: pull the pin out whilst putting as it doesn’t sit straight in the hole (when inexperienced players ahead) and insufficient room for ball to drop in from certain directions.
Mental approach: Relaxed body, finding flow and not putting too much physical effort into each shot. Let body take time to get back into it after 2 weeks away.
Hazards and Highlights
One surprise: monster kangaroo on the 8th green!
One birdie: blue faced honeyeater in trees on the 7th
Biggest challenge: submerged fairways after all the rain last night, hitting it straight after 10 days recovering from injury.
