Counselling Through Change
Navigate big life changes with confidence
Having lived and worked in over 15 countries, I understand the complexities of transitions firsthand. My journey, supported by mentors and psychologists, equipped me with invaluable skills to navigate the social and emotional hurdles of change.
Now, I'm dedicated to empowering others in the same way. Together, we'll unlock your potential for growth and success amid life's transformative moments.
What are some of the common challenges of significant change?
Life is change, and change is life. As with all people moving places, we have the opportunity to grow as a person, and confront inevitable difficult moments that come from being outside of our comfort zone. You may be apprehensive about situations such as:
Adjusting to a new community and culture, understanding social norms, attitudes, and customs different from those “at home”, learning a new language (even a different kind of English!)
Making friends and building social networks in a new place, and understanding the time and effort it takes to form genuine connections with people.
Physically moving to a new country, a new home, new environment, and all the things you need to learn to “survive” in that place (from supermarket shopping to road rules, to choosing schools, to deciphering electricity and water bills) – it can be very overwhelming!
The emotional impact of change, relationships, family dynamics and nostalgia or homesickness for the place you’ve come from.
Starting a new job - getting to know a new workplace culture, personalities, ways of working and making decisions, to cultural factors and inevitable culture clashes that come from being in a different environment.
Here are just a few of the amazing aspects of relocating or embarking on a significant life transition:
Gaining insight into different perspectives, ways of being in the world, and empathy for others – in short, becoming a “global citizen”.
Building friendships and social networks, rich connections that you would never have made if you’d stayed at home.
Physically moving – realising what you want to keep, what you don’t, and embracing an opportunity to “start again” with a clean slate.
Personal growth - getting to know yourself psychologically and emotionally, recognising the importance of relationships you may have taken for granted (and those that may no longer serve you), a realszation of what makes a “home”, and what makes a place special to you.
Strengthening your performance at work - becoming more “emotionally intelligent” and strengthening your ability to empathise with others and take different perspectives in your decision-making. Learning new ways of working that can enhance your future performance.
Why work with me?
As someone who has moved countries and communities several times, I am familiar with the time and effort it takes to successfully transition and integrate to life in a new place.
This is what I do: I work with people in transition, supporting you to prepare for, undertake and reflect on change, and move forward in a positive, life affirming way.
Whilst the list above may present significant challenges to a person as they embark on a change, the courage to make change presents great opportunities too!
