Glenelg Golf Course

Review of Glengelg Golf Course in South Australia, Australia

On our second day of our spontaneous Adelaide adventure, we were lucky to join a shotgun start field at 13:30 off the 14th at Glenelg Golf Course. This is a personal favourite of mine –  loved every minute of playing this private course and thoroughly enjoyed the added challenge of wind on the day. We played on Tuesday 24 October.

A couple of corellas - not “cruellas”!

Biodiversity: 16/20

So many birdies! Must have identified one on each hole, including little cormorant, three grey heron, Eurasian coot, eastern rosella and heaps of corellas – they love the place.

Vistas: 14/20

Every hole afforded a different vista, and you can see the city and Adelaide hills from the course. The recent upgrades have enhanced this aspect and they will continue to improve as the landscaping becomes more established.

Organisation: 17/20

What a wonderful welcome from members and staff alike – we felt like we were members ourselves. Members freely gave advice in the pro-shop and we enjoyed a light lunch and a delicious glass of South Aussie white before the game. Despite a full field didn’t wait long at any stage.

Design: 18/20

Super interesting design has you faced with different challenges and judging distances on each hole. As above – the course enhancements have been done brilliantly and make for interesting golf and some surprises…

Suggestions & Strategy

Highlights & Hazards

Something the course taught you: How to consider the wind in preshot routine, 2 club difference, slice accentuated

Piece of advice: When approaching green with chip and run, don’t be afraid to hit through the ball, I left it short of the green / hole and lost quite a few shots until I raked up the courage put more into it.

Psyc srategy you worked on: gratitude for being on this course and for every hole we played.

One surprise: Keep right on hole 8, there is a bunker on far left blind

Greatest challenge: making the green on the 13th, water hazard and tricky in the wind!

One birdie: Adelaide Rosella

Favourite hole: twelfth, downhill drive, green tucked behind mounds, landscaped beautifully
